Schubert, Schumann and Chopin – three masters of intimate music. Schubert was the great master of melody and song. He was the first of the Romantics, and was inspired by the beauty of words to write some of the most famous songs ever: Die Forelle, Erlkonig, Du bist die Ruh, and An die Musik. The dual nature of Schumann’s work focused on inward- and outward-looking aspects, and the works in this concert will examine some of his more intimate moments. Chopin, the poet of the piano, is best known for his passionate music, and a number of pieces by him will be performed here. Richard Cock will tie all these together with anecdotes about the composers, their works and their lives and their passion.
